In the new issue of Maine Food & Lifestyle, we introduce a new feature called Local Heroes. Our first inductee into our Local Hero Hall of Fame is Lynn Archer, owner and chef of the Brass Compass Café in Rockland. Lynn, who says she’s been cooking since she could walk, has become more of a celebrity than ever since her recent Throwdown win against Food Network’s Celebrity Chef Bobby Flay.

This summer, Lynn and Bobby met for a Throwdown in Buoy Park in Rockland, and the subject was lobster. Bobby never stood a chance! Lynn wowed the crowd and judges with her signature “King of Clubs”, the most amazing and huge lobster club sandwich you’ll ever get your jaws around!! Absolutely delicious and packed full of local Maine lobster meat. Lynn’s Throwdown vs. Bobby Flay airs September 30th at 9PM on the Food Network. Don’t miss it!

Lynn’s story is a heartwarming one. Raised by her grandmother, Lynn has worked hard all her life from a young age, and it is this work ethic that fuels the fire of her continued success. Update: This just in from the Rockland Main Street organization:
The Rockland Celebration of the Throwdown between Bobby Flay of the Food Network and Lynn Archer of the Brass Compass has been scheduled for Thursday October 1st, 6PM at the Farnsworth. After the 6PM showing at The Farnsworth, Lynn will be hosting a gathering at the Brass Compass.” A Block Party Celebration for the Community” said  Lynn.” The evening will start with a rebroadcast of the show, Throwdown with Bobby Flay that is airing on the Food Network on Wednesday, September 30th at 9PM.
